UNT is always working to make communication about campus events and issues simpler, more effective and more efficient. Announce.unt.edu is one tool we offer for your use.
By now you’ve heard about Announce.unt.edu – you’ve seen the weekly administrative announcements appear in your Groupwise inbox and we hope you’ve formed a habit of visiting Announce.unt.edu regularly to read information about new events and announcements.
Announce.unt.edu communicates about events and announcements that faculty and staff need to know about. The UNT Events Calendar is for events targeting the entire campus community, including students, and the public.
Now we’ve made the two work hand-in-hand so promoting your UNT event is even easier.
How does the change work?
When you add an event to Announce.unt.edu, your event will be automatically reviewed for inclusion in UNT Events Calendar.
If the event appeals to a major portion of the UNT community or the general public it will be added to the calendar.
Not all posts are appropriate for both locations and those that are not appropriate for the calendar will not be added. For example, announcements that are not date sensitive do not belong on the calendar.
When an item is appropriate for both places, you’ll no longer have to post it twice.
What kind of items go where?
Here are some examples of items that are appropriate for both Announce.unt.edu and the UNT Event Calendar:
- Lecture on water quality is at noon Jan. 19 in the EESAT Building, Room 222
- Symphony performs Beethoven’s Ninth at 6 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Murchison Performing Arts Center
- Mean Green volleyball tournament starts at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 in the Coliseum
Here are some examples of items that are appropriate for Announce.unt.edu, but not for the UNT Events Calendar:
- Retirement party for Sally Goodworker at 3 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Gateway Center Ballroom (event is not intended for attendance by the whole campus community or the public)
- Cast your ballots in the upcoming Staff Council election (item is not date sensitive and does not affect the whole campus community or the public)
- State Employee Charitable Campaign kicks off next week item is not date sensitive and does not affect the whole campus community or the public)
If you post an item on the UNT Events Calendar, it will not automatically be added to Announce.unt.edu
Where will people see the item I posted?
Announcements generated by Announce.unt.edu can be viewed on the Announce.unt.edu site. In addition, InHouse includes links to Announce.unt.edu postings in real time and will continue to cover many of the items online and in the weekly e-newsletter.
UNT Event Calendar listings also are integrated to the UNT home page and web site, including InHouse. On the day of an event — or the first day of an event that spans more than one day — information about the event automatically appears on the UNT home page.
