Description

Fem Flicks is a free film series sponsored by the Women's Studies Program and the Media Library.

It's a Girl's World

Examines the relationships among young girls. Through audio and video diaries, a disturbing picture emerges of how girls use friendships to hurt each other and win social power in the group. At the same time, their parents struggle through considerable denial and disbelief to accept and deal with the serious consequences of this behavior. Discusses a true story of a fourteen-year-old girl who committed suicide. Shatters the myth that social bullying among girls is an acceptable part of growing up. (2004, 68 min.)

A question-and-answer session will be conducted after the film.

Deadline 01/30/09 for Task Force Asia meeting on 02/05/09

Date

02/05/2009 2:00 pm

Location

University Union 411

Description

Dear faculty member;

The Republic of Korea and Taiwan have been identified as key countries for UNT’s international strategy. In each country there are a range of opportunities for higher educational linkages and collaborations; UNT-I is poised to strengthen the University’s presence and facilitate faculty interest in these two countries. To this end, UNT-International invites all faculty members with interests in either Korea or Taiwan to attend “Task Force-North Asia: Korea and Taiwan” a University round-table presentation and workshop.

This workshop will be an opportunity for faculty to share their contacts and knowledge of higher educational institutions as well as their research ideas and initiatives with each other in an open forum, and explore the availability of funding for these projects from outside sources. This is a continuation of the UNT-International strategic internationalization series, each focusing on different geographic regions. These groups will continue to meet as a means to maximize the impact of University initiatives throughout the world while exploring opportunities for collaboration, discussing the University’s priorities in the region and how projects align with institutional goals.

Task Force-North Asia: Korea and Taiwan will take place on Thursday, February 5th 2009 in the University Union, room 411 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is open to all UNT faculty members.

A formal proposal or preparation is necessary before the meeting. However for those with specific hopes and plans, a rough outline of your ideas or interests in the region will aid in the facilitation of the discussion. This could be a statement of research or collaboration you would like to undertake, reasons for interest in either of these countries, or connections at local institutions in Taiwan or Korea.
If you have worked in the region or have a proposal either in process or complete, we ask that you register in advance so that we can properly prepare for the round-table. If you wish to make a presentation to the group please submit the following materials via email to Kenneth.Horton@unt.edu by January 30th, 2009.

  • Summary list of specific work, research or collaboration in the area or field to this point.
    1. Note any funding sources and amounts to date.
  • Proposals for future work, research, and collaboration.
    1. Note any current funding proposals pending, as well as the source and amount requested.
  • Thoughts or sources of future funding of which you are aware.
  • Thank you for your interest in this important project and for your commitment to UNT’s internationalization.
